WHAT TO EXPECT

Southern Calvert Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist Church located in Lusby, Maryland. We are dedicated to vibrant worship, authentic fellowship, biblical preaching, practical and meaningful ministries, and engaging children’s activities.

We believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God. The Bible teaches that God connects with people by offering them forgiveness of sin and reconciliation through Jesus’ sacrificial death, burial, and resurrection. Jesus said that the greatest commandment is that we love one another as Christ has loved us. That is how we as God’s people connect with one another. You are welcome at SCBC, and we want to connect with you! Our services are upbeat, casual dress, and everyone is welcome.

Join us Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM for Sunday School and then at 10:45 AM for Worship Service which includes a mixture of traditional hymns and contemporary music. Come as you are and worship with us. Childcare is provided for children Pre-K and under during the Worship Service.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We cooperate with the churches of the Southern Baptist Convention, the Baptist Convention of Maryland & Delaware, and the Potomac Baptist Association. Southern Calvert Baptist Church follows the Southern Baptist Convention Statement of Faith found in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

If you desire specific information about SCBC’s beliefs, please feel free to contact us by calling the Church Office at 410-326-6533 or emailing scbc1secretary@gmail.com, or by referencing "Our Beliefs" section below.

OUR BELIEFS

A BRIEF HISTORY OF SCBC

The vision for a Southern Baptist Church to serve the southern part of Calvert County began with the mission-minded members of Lexington Park and Emmanuel Baptist Churches. They foresaw the need as the completion of the Thomas Johnson Bridge neared, linking St. Mary’s and Calvert County, and there was a definite need for Southern Baptist work in the southern part of Calvert County.

In March of 1979, the foundation of establishing Southern Calvert Baptist Church began with weekly Bible Studies in the home of one of the founding families. On March 5, 1980, the first worship service was conducted. During the early years, services were held in private homes, and other temporary meeting locations.

On September 6, 1981, a service was held to constitute as Southern Calvert Baptist Church.

In October of 1991, a “Challenge to Build” program was begun, and the first church sanctuary was completed in October of 1993. A new, larger sanctuary was completed in July of 2000, and remodeling of that sanctuary was completed in August of 2019.
